Fire weather watch in place for the East Coast for Friday

At 8:56 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service released a fire weather watch valid for Friday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The watch is for Coastal Indian River, Coastal St. Lucie, Coastal Martin, Inland Northern Brevard, Inland Indian River, Inland St. Lucie, Inland Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Inland Southern Brevard, Mainland Southern Brevard and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands as well as Osceola and Okeechobee counties.

Expect winds to be north-northwest to north around 15 mph with gusts to around 20 mph, especially from mid morning through early afternoon and humidity 20 to 35 percent.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” adds the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
