On Thursday at 1:50 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Teller County/Rampart Range including Pikes Peak and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.

Residents can expect winds to be west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 12%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” comments the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
