System name: Cosme

On Sunday at 10 pm, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that the tropical depression named Cosme developed into a tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. Cosme was previously forecasted as a tropical depression but has since gained strength. The system’s new name was first made public in the 4 p.m. advisory. Tropical Storm Cosme is currently at the Pacific Ocean, 650 miles south-southwest of the Southern Tip of Baja California. Packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the system is tracking to the northwest at 9 mph.

“A slow down and turn to the northeast is forecast to occur by mid-week” meteorologists wrote. “Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Cosme is forecast to be near hurricane strength on Monday”

Today, a system that was previously forecasted as a tropical depression has been officially named Tropical Storm Cosme as it has progressed into a fully formed tropical storm. The name gain was first reported in the 4 p.m. update.
