Update: 5.4 magnitude earthquake strikes close to Isangel, Vanuatu on Sept. 25

WEST TANNA, Tafea Province — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.4 magnitude quake shook near Isangel Thursday morning.

A tremor jolted the area at 23:16 UTC (10:16 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 72 km south-southwest of Isangel and occurred at a depth of 50 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
