Update: Earthquake shakes region near Kimbe, Papua New Guinea on July 8 – 5.0 magnitude recorded

POMIO DISTRICT, East New Britain Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Kimbe on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the area at 11:23 UTC (21:23 local time). It occurred at a depth of 33 km with the epicenter approximately 94 km east-southeast of Kimbe.
