According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake shook close to Severo-Kuril’sk Tuesday morning.

The tremor hit the area at 00:34 UTC (10:34 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located approximately 178 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk.

Last week, there have been six tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The most significant was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake reported in the same region one day ago.
