At 4 a.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 530 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and 685 miles southeast of Bermuda. Packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, it is tracking to the northwest at 13 mph.

Gabrielle is forecast to become a hurricane night or on Sunday or on Monday.

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gabrielle are beginning to reach Bermuda and will build through the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
