On Saturday at 12:48 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated red flag warning in effect until 9 p.m. for Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.

Winds are forecasted to be south 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 15%.

“Dry conditions, above normal temperatures and strengthening southerly flow on the eastern periphery of a deepening lee trough will foster critical fire weather across the majority of the region on Saturday,” says the NWS. “Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.”
