System name: Dolly

The remnant system was last addressed in a final advisory by the National Hurricane Center at 10 a.m. Friday. Dolly weakened and had devolved from a tropical storm into a remnant with sustained winds of 40 mph. Remnants of Dolly are in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,000 miles east of the Leeward Islands. It is moving west at 25 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

“… the remnants should be nearing the Leeward Islands Saturday night and Sunday,” forecasters observed. They also said “The winds associated with the remnants of Dolly are expected to decrease below tropical-storm force on Saturday.”

Hazard affecting land

Rainfall. Heavy rain from the remnants of Dolly could affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, with rainfall moving into the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola Sunday and Monday. This heavy rain may produce flash flooding within areas of higher terrain of the Leeward Islands.
