Prepare for gusty winds in Central Colorado Monday night – gusts may reach 50 mph

A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Monday at 8:43 p.m. for gusty winds until 9:30 p.m. for Jefferson and West Douglas counties above 6,000 feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park counties below 9,000 feet, Boulder/Jefferson counties below 6,000 feet/West Broomfield County, North Douglas County below 6,000 feet/Denver/West Adams and Arapahoe counties/East Broomfield County, Elbert/central and east Douglas counties above 6,000 feet and Central and South Weld County.

Residents can expect wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

“At 8:43 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong outflow boundary extending from over Lone Tree to near Longmont, or extending from 12 miles south of Denver to 26 miles southwest of Greeley, moving west at 25 mph,” comments the NWS. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton, Arvada, Westminster, Centennial, Boulder, southern Longmont, Broomfield, Highlands Ranch, Commerce City, northwestern Parker, Littleton, Northglenn, Brighton, Englewood, Wheat Ridge, Lafayette and Golden.

The NWS comments, “Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”
