Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude detected close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Oct. 5

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Severo-Kuril’sk on Sunday around midday.

The tremor shook the area at 01:34 UTC (11:34 local time). It occurred at a depth of 29 km with the epicenter located roughly 203 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
