ZONE 2 (KILBET RASU), Afar — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Mek’ele Saturday evening.
The tremor jolted at 16:01 UTC (19:01 local time), with its epicenter located approximately 65 km northeast of Mek’ele and a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Moderate shaking was observed, with reports from cities such as Āddīgrat and Mekʿelē indicating that the tremor was felt, according to the USGS DYFI report.

Last week’s quake
Last week, there has been another quake of magnitude 4.3 centered in the area. Prior to this quake, it too was reported close to Mek’ele.
