At 4 p.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Category 4 Hurricane Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 180 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and 2,005 miles west of the Azores. The hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, is moving north-northeast at 12 mph.

“… the center of Gabrielle is expected to pass east of Bermuda tonight”, analysts noted about the hurricane. They also said “Little significant change in strength is forecast tonight, followed by a gradual weakening on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Yesterday (Sunday)

Gabrielle found new strength and had evolved from a tropical storm into a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph.

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gabrielle will continue to affect Bermuda and the east coast of the United States from North Carolina northward, as well as Atlantic Canada, and are expected to continue for the next few days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
