At 4 p.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Lorenzo is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,180 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system is moving to the northwest at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.

“Little change in strength is forecast during the next day or so, but some gradual intensification is possible later in the week”, forecasters wrote.
