The National Hurricane Center’s 4 a.m. Saturday update reported that Category 4 Hurricane Humberto is in the Atlantic Ocean, 375 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. Packing maximum sustained winds of 145 mph, the hurricane is tracking to the west at 6 mph.

“By early Monday, a turn toward the northwest at a slightly faster forward speed is forecast followed by a turn toward the north-northwest by Monday night”, forecasters observed. They also said “Additional strengthening is forecast through the weekend.”

Yesterday (Friday)

Humberto had transformed into a Category 3 hurricane. It was later upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 145 mph.

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Humberto will begin affecting portions of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda this weekend and early next week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
