According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 7.5 magnitude quake devastated close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon.

At 06:49 UTC (17:49 local time), the area was struck by a tremor. The earthquake rocked at a depth of 77 km, with its epicenter about 154 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Over the last week, there have been four earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 7. The largest, measuring 7.0, occurred in the same region prior to this quake.
