July 16: Earthquake measuring 7.3 strikes region near Sand Point, AK

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 7.3 magnitude quake slammed near Sand Point Wednesday morning.

A tremor rocked the area at 8:37 p.m. (9:37 a.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 54 miles south of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 12 miles.

The National Tsunami Center issued a Tsunami statement related to the quake, please visit tsunami.gov for the latest information.
