Update: Earthquake jolts region near West Chile Rise on Jan. 18 – 5.2 magnitude recorded

A 5.2 magnitude quake was reported near West Chile Rise on Sunday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 16:06 UTC (11:06 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated of West Chile Rise and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
