At 1:03 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued an updated high surf advisory in effect until Saturday at 11 a.m. The advisory is for Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches.
The NWS adds to be ready for, “Large breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet with sets to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents.”
“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” states the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly locations in such conditions, so stay off the rocks.”
