On Friday at 11:31 a.m. the NWS Fort Worth TX released an updated heat advisory valid between noon and 8 p.m. The advisory is for Wise, Parker, Montague, Cooke, Young and Jack counties.
The NWS says, “Heat index values up to 107 degrees expected.”
“Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,” describes the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.
Protect yourself during a heat wave with these tips from the NWS
• Stay hydrated: Make sure to drink plenty of fluids.
• Seek cool shelter: Opt for an air-conditioned room to stay comfortable.
• Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
• Child and pet safety: Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
• Be mindful outdoors: Take extra precautions when working or spending time outside.
• Find the right time: Consider rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening if possible.
• Recognize warning signs: Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.
To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
