At 11:47 p.m. on Friday, the NWS Fort Worth TX issued an updated heat advisory in effect until Saturday at 7 p.m. The advisory is for Wise, Denton, Collin, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Hood, Johnson, Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Stephens, Palo Pinto, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Somervell, Ellis, Henderson, Navarro, Freestone, Anderson and Leon counties.
The NWS says to prepare for, “Heat index values up to 108 degrees.”
“Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,” says the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until Saturday at 7 p.m.
NWS Heat Wave Safety Tips: Stay safe with these recommendations
• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids.
• Find cool shelter: Stay in an air-conditioned room.
• Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
• Child and pet welfare: Never forget to safeguard young children and pets by not leaving them unattended in vehicles, especially during scorching weather when car interiors can become life-threateningly hot.
• Be cautious outdoors: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
• Select the ideal time: If possible, move strenuous activities to early morning or evening for more favorable conditions.
• Familiarize yourself with warning signs: Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Dress comfortably: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
