The National Hurricane Center’s 10 p.m. Friday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 535 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and 760 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, the system is moving to the northwest at 12 mph.
Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday.
Hazards affecting land
Surf. Swells generated by Gabrielle are expected to reach Bermuda soon and build through the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
