System name: Gabrielle

The National Hurricane Center’s 4 p.m. Friday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 510 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and 850 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, the system is moving to the west-northwest at 12 mph.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is forecast to strengthen.

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gabrielle are expected to reach Bermuda tonight and build through the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
