The National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch at 2:43 a.m. on Wednesday valid for Thursday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. The watch is for Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains, Van Horn and Highway 54 Corridor, Eastern Culberson County, Reeves County Plains, Chinati Mountains, Marfa Plateau, Davis Mountains, Davis Mountains Foothills, Central Brewster County and Presidio Valley as well as Gaines, Dawson, Borden, Andrews, Martin, Loving, Winkler, Ector, Ward and Pecos counties.
“Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires. Fires can start from the smallest of flames or sparks and are highly discouraged. Observe local burn bans,” explains the NWS.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
