On Friday at 2:03 p.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Saturday between noon and 9 p.m. The watch is for Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Crosby, Dickens, Yoakum, Terry, Lynn, Garza and Kent counties.

Winds are forecasted to be southwest at 15 to 25 mph and humidity as low as 7 percent.

“Any fires that develop can spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
