At 1:36 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid from Saturday 9 a.m. until Sunday midnight for Northern San Juan and Gunnison Basin.

The NWS states that the warning was issued for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels. Residents can expect winds to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity 9 to 14 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” states the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
