On Saturday at 12:01 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was released by the National Weather Service valid for Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Expect winds to be west 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph on Saturday. northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph on Sunday and relative humidity as low as 10% both days.

“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and be very destructive,” states the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
