Update: Fire weather watch in place for Yuma and Kit Carson counties for Wednesday – increased fire danger

Published Apr 9, 2025

At 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for Yuma and Kit Carson counties.

Winds are expected to be northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 18 percent.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” explains the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
