On Friday at 10:55 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Sunday between noon and 9 p.m. for Southwest Colorado Upper East Forecast Area.

Residents can expect winds to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity 9 to 14 percent.

“Winds across the area have begun to diminish, therefore have decided to cancel tonight’s Red Flag Warnings. Red Flag Warnings remain in effect for most zones from 9 a.m. to midnight tomorrow, and a Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for Sunday,” says the NWS. “Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning.”

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
