On Monday at 3:37 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch valid for Wednesday between noon and 8 p.m. for Eastern San Juan Mountains and La Garita Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass and Creede and San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.
Residents can expect winds to be west 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 8%.
“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” explains the NWS.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
