On Sunday at 12:37 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Monday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher, Eastern Las Animas County including Pinon Canyon and Baca County including Springfield and Eastern Comanche Grasslands.
Expect winds to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph Sunday, and southwest 25 to 35 with gusts up to 50 mph possible Monday and relative humidity as low as 7%.
“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and could be very destructive,” explains the NWS.
According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
