At 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Sunday between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Upper Arkansas River Valley including Lake County and Chaffee County, Fremont County including Canon City/Howard/Texas Creek, Eastern San Juan Mountains and La Garita Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass and Creede and San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Expect winds to be west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 7%.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” states the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
