At 1:29 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Saturday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Upper Arkansas River Valley including Lake County and Chaffee County and Eastern San Juan Mountains and La Garita Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass and Creede.

Winds are expected to be for Friday, southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. For Saturday, southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph and relative humidity for Friday, as low as 12 percent. For Saturday, as low as 9 percent.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” states the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
