Update: Fire weather watch for Southern Front Range for Saturday – gusts may reach 40 mph

The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 6:54 p.m. on Thursday valid for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for Southern Front Range including Sangre De Cristo Mountains/Wet Mountains/La Veta Pass.

Winds are expected to be west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 9%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” explains the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
