Update: Fire weather watch for Southeast Colorado for Saturday – increased fire danger

On Thursday at 11:36 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Crowley County including Ordway, Otero County including La Junta and Western Comanche Grasslands and Eastern Las Animas County including Pinon Canyon.

Residents can expect winds to be west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 8%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” explains the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
