The National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch at 12:36 a.m. on Friday valid for Saturday between noon and 8 p.m. for San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache, Huerfano County including Walsenburg and Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher.
Winds are expected to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 7%.
“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” explains the NWS.
According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
