On Thursday at 2:33 p.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. The watch is for Guadalupe Mountains Above 7000 Feet, Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains, Van Horn and Highway 54 Corridor, Eastern Culberson County, Reeves County Plains, Davis Mountains and Davis Mountains Foothills as well as Gaines, Andrews, Loving, Winkler and Ward counties.
“Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires. Fires can start from the smallest of flames or sparks and are highly discouraged. Observe local burn bans,” explains the NWS.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
