Update: Fire weather watch affecting Texas Panhandle Friday, gusts may reach 40 mph

The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 9:08 p.m. on Thursday valid for Friday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. The watch is for Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Yoakum, Terry and Lynn counties.

Winds are forecasted to be southwest at 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and humidity as low as 11 percent.

“Any fires that develop can spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged,” comments the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
