The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 7:46 p.m. on Saturday valid for Monday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Expect winds to be southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Strongest winds are expected on Sunday, with southwest winds gusting up to 40 mph on Monday and relative humidity as low as 9 percent.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
