Update: Fire weather watch affecting Fremont County and San Luis Valley Friday – enhanced fire threat

An updated fire weather watch was released by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 1:27 p.m. valid for Friday between noon and 8 p.m. for Fremont County including Canon City/Howard/Texas Creek and San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Winds are expected to be northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 11%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution and avoid any outdoor burning,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
