Fire weather watch affecting El Paso County Friday – gusts up to 45 mph

At 11:41 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service released a fire weather watch valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Southern El Paso County including Fort Carson and Colorado Springs.

Residents can expect winds to be northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity 10 to 15%.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
