On Monday at 2:55 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch valid for Tuesday between noon and 7 p.m. for Cheyenne County.
Residents can expect winds to be west 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and relative humidity as low as 14 percent.
“Very dry and windy conditions are forecast Tuesday afternoon, leading to numerous hours of critical fire weather conditions and extreme values of the Grassland Fire Danger Index. Winds are forecast to be from the southwest for much of the day before a shift to the northwest is forecast during the late afternoon with a cold front. Blowing dust reducing visibilities down to a mile or less at time is possible in the Watched and Warned areas which may create delayed response times of first responders,” states the NWS. “Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.”
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
