The National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch at 12:36 p.m. on Monday valid for Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Southern Front Range including Sangre De Cristo Mountains/Wet Mountains/La Veta Pass, Huerfano County including Walsenburg and Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher.
Winds are expected to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 6%.
“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and be very destructive,” says the NWS.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
