According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 6.3 magnitude quake occurred near Lorengau on Friday around midday.

At 02:08 UTC (12:08 local time), the region was slammed by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter roughly 139 km southeast of Lorengau. The magnitude was originally reported as 6.0 but later upgraded to 6.3.
