According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.7 magnitude quake hit near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon.
The tremor shook the area at 07:12 UTC (18:12 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated roughly 156 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors last week
In the past week, the region has experienced five quakes of magnitude 7 or greater, five of them larger than magnitude 7. The biggest, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, was detected in the same region prior to this quake.
