NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.6 magnitude quake occurred close to Hihifo on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 10:10 UTC (22:10 local time). The epicenter was roughly 80 km northwest of Hihifo, at a depth of 198 km.
