KEPULAUAN TALAUD REGENCY, North Sulawesi — A 5.3 magnitude quake was detected close to Sarangani at midday on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor shook the area at 05:33 UTC (13:33 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 200 km southeast of Sarangani and occurred at a depth of 35 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.4 but later downgraded to 5.3.
