Update: Earthquake strikes region close to Nabire, Indonesia on April 2 – 5.3 magnitude detected

KAIMANA REGENCY, West Papua — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Nabire on Thursday around midnight, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 15:36 UTC (00:36 local time), a tremor jolted the area at a depth of 28 km, with its epicenter roughly 83 km west-southwest of Nabire.
