Update: Dec. 26 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded near Kokopo, Papua New Guinea

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Kokopo Friday morning.

At 23:02 UTC (09:02 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 84 km, with its epicenter about 108 km east-southeast of Kokopo. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
