Earthquake measuring 5.1 shakes area near Lospalos, Timor Leste on July 16

A 5.1 magnitude quake was recorded close to Lospalos Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 16:02 UTC (01:02 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 152 km north-northeast of Lospalos.

Two tremors near Lospalos last week

Over the past week, there have been two quakes, above magnitude 2.5, centered in the region. Both were reported in the same area where the larger one was a 4.6 earthquake that struck six days earlier. The other, of magnitude 4.3, rattled on July 11.
